This website is dedicated to the memory of my late mother, Mary Ellis.

As well as being a place to purchase one of her paintings, this website is also intended to be a record of as much of her artwork as I can find. Therefore, there will be items included which are mere sketches, along with unfinished works. My mother has also exhibited extensively, so I know that many of her best works will have been sold and are out there somewhere! If you have purchased one of her paintings, or know someone who has, please get in touch as I would dearly like to add an image of those items (anonymously if you wish) to what appears here.

To quote from one of her exhibitions:

"Mary Ellis started painting at the age of three, painted her way through the walls of the house and also the books. This had to stop so she did art and pottery courses; went on to design clothes and furniture and was also a fashion artist.

"In recent years she has held 'one-woman' exhibitions and done book illustrations. Her favourite things to draw are: boats, trees, cats, pigs, fish and wild and domestic birds. She has spent holidays working by Scottish lochs, rivers, harbours and visiting the islands of the Hebrides."

Pictures are still being photographed and added - and there is a long way to go - so please send me an email if you would like to be informed when there is a new batch of additions. There are thousands of uncatalogued sketches and unframed paintings. If you can't wait for them all to appear, please contact me if you are looking for a particular type of image and I will see what I can find.

NB. Many of the photographs have been taken under less than perfect conditions and have been photo-manipulated afterwards. Please therefore forgive, shadows, reflections, focussing, lens aberrations, distortions or if something does not look central in the frame. Rest assured the actual artwork is good as you can get - and correctly aligned! If however you are not satisfied with any purchase, return it post-paid, in the same condition, within 7 days for a full refund (postage excepted).
